SA Executive Officer Elections are just around the corner.  On April 11th and 12th the student body will elect the new 2012-2013 Students’ Association Executive Officer team.

These positions provide a great opportunity to get involved in campus life, promote positive change and advocate for the student body.  The offices are open to the entire student body with a few qualifications.

If you are interested in serving the student body in this capacity please come by the Students’ Association Office in the lower level of the Campus Center.  Candidate packets will be available beginning Thursday April 2nd at noon.

The Executive Officers positions and qualifications are:

• Executive President – must have Senior standing
• Executive Vice President – must have at least Junior standing
• Executive Treasurer – must have at least Junior standing

The Students’ Association and Student Life offices have been working on a new dance policy for quite sometime and the approval of such policy will be celebrated with a campus wide dance.  The theme is Dance in Disguise, so wear your best costume and get your dance on! The first 500 people there will be getting free t-shirts.  Join the Students’ Association and Campus Board Activities tomorrow at 8:30PM in the Hunter Welcome Center.  We hope to see you there!

You may be asking yourselves, what is going on at ACU? The “dancing is prohibited”

rule has been here since our great-grandmothers came to ACU! So where is this new

dance policy coming from? Well… It came from you!

Last year the Students’ Association Internal affairs committee surveyed the

student body with questions about the dance policy such as “I would support an

increase in dancing opportunities through a change in the dance policy.” And an

overwhelming majority of the student populations strongly agreed with this

statement. It became pretty clear, right there and then that the students at ACU

wanted to get their groove on. So the SA officers went to the board of trustees with a

proposal to change the dance policy, most were open to the idea, and it was

March 20th in the Hunter Welcome Center from 8:30-11:30 with a “Dance in

But what are students saying? “I think that this is a way for students to be

able to have another opportunity for fellowship and by adding a dance policy all

students will be able to use their freedom of expression through dance”. (Chad)

“Also, this is what the students wanted, and now there will be more social events,

and more things to do on campus. There was some concern about some student’s

views that dancing would be inappropriate. But from all the talking around campus,

just about everyone seems pretty pumped about it! (Andrew).

Love Your Body.

My name is Rodney Johnson. I am a freshman Business Management major from Odessa, Texas. My position in Students’ Association is Freshman Class President. I decided to join SA because I really wanted to be involved and I felt compelled to be in a position of leadership. I also desire to someday be a college administrator, so I figured why not get some practice. If you are not familiar with what Students’ Association does, we are an organization that functions to assist student groups and improve student life at ACU (like a Student Congress). We meet on a weekly basis as officers and representatives to vote on things that directly affect the student body. We vote on items such as the Student organization budget, bills proposed (such as to change the campus chalking policy or to fund campus Christmas lights). Through Students’ Association I hope to make sure that the freshman class is represented in the best way possible. I want to do my best to serve the student body in my position to speak up in meetings and insure that the freshman class at ACU has a voice and that the student body as a whole is always Students’ Association’s first priority. I hope to take away from this process life long lessons that will make me a better leader and public servant.
